Where to set Deepnight Endeavour?

Can anybody help me pick where it make sense for Deepnight Endeavour to be set. I know that for a lot of people it doesn't matter and "can be set anywhere" but with the information provided I can't figure out a place that makes sense.

- At some point, and in some location, Endeavour encounters an Ancient Droyne ship which was heading Rimward from Point XF-1402. Where they meet up isn't specifically relevant but it solidifies us starting somewhere in the Great Rift.

- The Endeavour can make a total of 2 x J-3 and 1 x J-1.

- One of the J-3s is wasted on an intentional mis jump by the astrogator.

- Endeavour arrives "somewhere" (the location I'm trying to find)

- The ship makes its second J-3, drops its fuel pods and makes its final J-1 to arrive at a fuel depot which the captain expected to fuel them enough to get help (meaning the Fuel depot must be within J-1 of a world or station which would be exactly 5 hexes from where the Endeavour arrived following the misjump).

- It is easy enough to find an empty hex directly beside one with a planet. BUT, when I go back along their path, I can't seem to find a world that is exactly 5 hexes away from an empty hex (the misjump arrival location) where the planet is the closest option. Effectively, I can't find any place in the Great Rift with a location alone at the centre of a "sphere" with a 9 hex diameter.

I'm sure I'm missing something but if somebody could help me it would be greatly appreciated...
 
I wouldn't worry too much about the exact jump numbers. The misjump can go as far as the plot requires. I located Endeavour
on the route back from Point XF-1402 to Giikur. It had been investigating debris that had drifted from Alpha into interstellar space, and had picked up the infection from that. After rescuing some NPCs from Alpha the players met Endeavour at their return trip refueling stop.

The implications were that the players knew a few things about the Entity already and had their own counter-agent (which might or might not be the case for other groups that run this, depending on how things go). They still had a fair bit of investigating and politicking to do in Endeavour, in order to rescue some of the crew alive. They had also decided to bring both Rifthaulers back, which meant they had two full holds of supplies for Alphabase. This changed the rescue dynamics a bit, since it was practical to rescue pretty much everyone they could capture; there was plenty of food. They brought over the chemicals need for the extra life support from Endeavour . With the two Endeavour officers each trying to be in command, Endeavour crew - some controlled, some not - trying to break into the Rifthaulers to stow away, the Gunnery officer trying to ensure nobody leaves, space zombies trying to bite them, and secretly controlled crew trying to act normal and NOT be cured and also to NOT be put in low berths the players still had their hands full.

In the end, a lot of people got infected on the Rifthaulers, but they also made extensive use of the counteragent for which they'd brought plenty of material from Alpha. They got quarantined at Giikur until this settled down. The IN had to destroy the contaminated Rifthaulers though.
 
yea... I realize I'm being ridiculous by trying to find a perfect place. My version of Deepnight Endeavour is taking place in 1101 and was the motivation for Deepnight to start the Revelation project (They purchased the ship from the Imperial Navy in 1102 and started refurbishing it for its launch in 1105). Deepnight Legacy is going to be a coincidence taking place in the weeks before Revelations is due to launch and since the Travellers involved happened to be stationed out of Giikur, and therefore their reports reach the Deepnight representatives already in system. Then the Legacy Travellers can be last minute additions while the Endeavour Travellers have been involved with the project from the beginning.

For a campaign that is SOOOO dependent on mapping things out ourselves rather than relying on TravellerMaps I fully understand I shouldn't be so hung up on where in Charted Space Endeavour takes place but... my brain isn't letting me let it go for some reason hahah.
 
You can rely on Travellermap a lot for the first segment of the trip.
My group left Giikur in May 2024, and is now in Therborn. One of the PCs was a researcher for Deepnight, who was supposed to be the Alpha part of an effort to locate by triangulation an Ancients beacon that was somewhere in the rift. The Endeavour was another part of that effort and found the beacon.
